Star of US big budget TV series Heroes and Alias, Greg Grunberg, has just launched the first application from his new iPhone development studio, called Yowser!!.

Grunberg, who plays mind-reading cop Matt Parkman in Heroes, spoke with Appy Entertainment about his new business venture on the Apple portable platform.

"Business was my major in college so I have always had a mind for it," says Grunberg. "And yes, the doors tend to fly open for the Mind Reading Cop from Heroes. But once we get past that, business is business. I must say, however, that it really does take a lot more these days than just creating an iPhone App. If you don’t have a strong marketing budget and plan to back it up, nobody is going to hear about it."

When he says the doors fly open, we assume he's talking figuratively, rather than about his on-screen psychic powers.

Anyway, Grunberg's understanding of the importance of marketing is clear, as he aims to put his stardom to use in promoting his iPhone application.

"I am about to embark on a major publicity push (talk shows, radio shows, etc.) and it helps a great deal," Grunberg explains. "Digital Couponing is still a revolutionary concept for retailers big and small, but when they know that I will be out there proudly boasting about their company is on Yowza!! it takes the gamble off of the idea of doing business with Yowza!!"

You can check out the full interview here on the Appy Entertainment blog, and take a look at the (US only) shopping application here on the official site.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
